Laptop Ergonomics FAQ

--- "The AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand looks too small and lightweight to hold my laptop securely.  Should I be concerned?"

Simple is better, less weight , easier to carry and - less cost to you.  The structure of the AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand is based on the "I" beam principle.  Strong yet lightweight.

We guarantee you will be very happy with the stability and support the AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand provides.  (See the home page where we drove a Landcruiser on top of the Aviator Laptop Stand - please don't try this)

--- The Aviator slides around on the desktop in the "On Top" position:  This is by design.  The lateral movement contact points on the bottom of the Aviator are design to allow the whole assembly to slide out of your way, when you need to accomplish reading or writing tasks on your desktop.  The Lateral Movement Contact Points provide just enough friction, so the assembly will not slide around when you are typing on your laptop.  The only time the bottom rubber strips come in contact with the desk surface is in the "Cantilever" position, where it sort of "locks" the stand down using gravity - for safety and security.

--- Will the Keynamics eWheelie® Laptop Stand fit all users?  We say it fits most users and all laptops that we have tested or sold so far.  We recommend that all users read the Instruction Manual (located on this website) prior to use.  The same goes for the AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand.

--- Can you have wires connected to your laptop?  Yes, rear exiting wires work great, because they arch up high over the back of the wheels on the eWheelie®.  Side exiting wires work, but could get in the way when rolling around on the desktop.  Same for AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand.

--- Can I take the eWheelie® Laptop Stand with me mobile?  The eWheelie® Laptop Stand was designed for use back at home base, while sitting at your desk for extended periods of time.  The stand weighs just over 10 pounds. Therefore, it would be inconvenient to carry around in your briefcase.  (See the Keynamics AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand for travel.  It only weighs 9 ounces and stores flat in the side pocket of a briefcase.)

--- How does the Keynamics Laptop Stand dissipate heat? Heat rises, therefore, when a laptop sits flat on a surface the heat is trapped. The Keynamics Laptop Stand promotes Air Flow by angling the laptop, allowing the heat to travel up and out the back. The added air space, when the laptop rests on the rear levelers also promotes air flow. More air flow equals less heat buildup.  Same for the AVIATOR™  Laptop Stand.

--- How much does it cost? The price of the eWheelie® Laptop Stand is $119.00 (On Sale - $109.99). The purchaser pays shipping and handling. The shipping and handling are calculated automatically, when you check out. You have the option to back out of the purchase at any time up until the final step of submitting your credit card information.  AVIATOR™ Laptop Stand is 24.99 on sale $19.99 plus shipping and handling.

--- What are the pockets for? The pockets serve several functions. The main function is to provide stability for the wheel axle bolt. They also hold most cell phones, PDAs, keys, paper clips...You decide.

--- Are the Keynamics Laptop Stands compatible with all laptops? We have not found one that they do not fit yet. We have tested the laptop stands with over 30 different laptops.  Furthermore, we have sold many thousands of units and they all performed great, without one customer complaint. We believe the laptop stands will fit most Laptops. If for any reason, your laptop does not fit, please feel free to return it for a full refund of the purchase price, less shipping and handling, within 30 days of purchase. Please see our return policy on the "How To Buy" page.

--- Can I use my CD / DVD and other drives with the Keynamics Laptop Stands? Yes. If your drive faces the front of your laptop, you might have to lift the front edge of your laptop up to clear the lip, in order to access your drive. If your drive faces the side of your laptop, no problem, it works great!

--- Will the Keynamics Laptop Stands roll (or slide) off the edge of the desk? Yes, if you don't follow the guidelines in the Instruction Manual and on the Instruction Manual / Safety page of this website.  There is enough friction designed into the contact points at the front of the unit to hold it steady on a level surface.  Therefore, no wheel locks are required.

--- What holds the laptop on the desk in the cantilevered position? We have designed the eWheelie® laptop stand to hold up to 20 pounds in the cantilevered position. More than any laptop built today. We use an 8 pound steel plate for counter weight to accomplish this. In addition, we have used 3M's rubber Bumpon material, which has a durometer of 70, at 6 critical contact points. This amazing material sticks to just about anything, especially the bottom of your laptop.  Both stands function best when the laptop is open, not closed.  The extra weight of the screen in the back helps stabilize the unit.  Also, please note the the laptop batteries should be left in the unit, again providing the needed weight for stability.

--- What are the wheels for?

Wheels allow frequent changes in posture (OSHA recommends changing your working position frequently. Working in the same posture for long periods of time is unhealthy).

Wheels allow more efficient use of desktop area. Being able to quickly and easily move your laptop to the side, allows utilization of the desk space immediately in front of you, instead of having to reach around the laptop.

---  How much is shipping and handling?  Contiguous US Ground Shipping to businesses averages around $10.00 for the eWheelie® & between $5.00 & $6.00 for the AVIATOR™.  (UPS charges a little more for residential deliveries) All other products are by weight.

---  How much do the laptop stands weigh?  The eWheelie® weighs 10 lbs and the AVIATOR™ weighs 9 ounces.

Issues

Rubber Strip De-lamination& Wobble

We use 3M's highest (and most expensive) adhesive on our rubber strips.  However, no adhesive can stand up to the extreme heat of the interior of a car (or delivery truck) in the middle of the Summer.  Extreme temperature changes experienced in the cargo bay of airplanes also affect the adhesion of the strips.   Therefore, you might experience de-lamination of the front strip on the lip.

This issue can be easily fixed, as the adhesive on the strips retains its tackiness and adhesive strength, even after delaminating (actually, it appears to be stronger once re-applied).  Simply reapply it following the diagrams below. "Click to enlarge"

Step 1         Step 2         Step 3

Step 4         Step 5         Step 6

The last step "Rub Down" is important and can be done with a plastic Window Screen "spline" Roller or even a large coin rolled back and forth applying pressure.

Wobble

Wobble:  The Keynamics Laptop Stand has wheels that are designed to be adjusted to compensate for variations in the manufacturing process.  If you find that your stand woobles, it is because the wheels need to be adjusted.  Simply take an Allen (Hex Head) wrench and loosen the axle bolts.  Then adjust the wheels up or down to correct the problem.
